The Eclipse

Like a butterfly in an eclipse of moths

I seem to be different

Though I can’t seem to control others’s thoughts

I wish they could see me as I am; magnificent

The moths would tease and torment

They said I wasn’t like the moon they praised

No one acted as my safety net

At this point, their behavior colored me unfazed

The eclipse overpowered my light

Though an eclipse is only brief

Moths are attracted to anything bright

And treating them with kindness brings me relief

The relief that “killing with kindness”

Can do much more

Than causing blindness

To people you’ve never talked to before

The relief that treating people

The way you want to be treated

Is just as simple

As not letting the cycle be repeated

Express your butterfly

Don’t title yourself defeated
